DescriptionIn the 1960s and 1970s, the Royal Ontario Museum excavated at the Maya site of Altun Ha. A number of rich tombs were discovered, containing objects rarely discovered in their original contexts.  In Tomb E-1/1, a pair of opposite facing profile faces were found. The faces were made from a thin sheet of crystalline hematite. The hole in each suggests that they were likely sewn to fabric or another backing.
