DescriptionThe textile length features a repeat pattern of ballpoint pens in four registers. At West African market stalls, consumers are confronted with a wide range of designs. These are inspired by many influences: traditional Indonesian batik, locally crafted objects or textiles, modern conveniences, or African proverbs. Yet others commemorate political personalities. Certain styles remain popular for decades, but newly introduced ones, such as ballpoint pens may prove fleeting.
