DescriptionThis painting depicts the marriage of Krishna and his future wife Rukhmini on the top register. At the top left, Krishna has arrived on his horse-drawn carriage. In the top centre, he and Rukhmini sit under an ornamental canopy with a priest performing the marriage ceremony around the sacred fire. Other registers show family and friends in attendence and musicians, singers and dancers as entertainment. In the lower register, it is perhaps the storyteller who is depicted in the process of telling the story. This painting may have been produced on the occasion of a marriage, suggesting the couple's union was as blessed as the divine union of Krishna and Rukhmini.
