Description

Slip-cast and moulded wares

By the mid 1850s, a few Canadian potteries were making slip-cast and moulded-pressed wares with relief decoration. Before this time all Canadian pottery was wheel-made. Justus Morton of New York State first introduced slip-cast wares at Brantford, Ontario. After 1873, the major producer in Ontario of these wares was W.E. Welding of Brantford. In Quebec, the Poterie Dion and Cap-Rouge Pottery Co. applied the moulding process to red earthenware and stoneware respectively.
