DescriptionThis piece is in the early Empire Style and is indistinguishable from pieces made in New York State during the same period. It descended in the family of Asa Weller (1761-1825) who was the first settler in Carrying Place, at the west end of the Bay of Quinte, near Brighton. Three substantial Federal/Georgian style houses, built by members of the Weller family in Carrying Place around 1830, are among the finest early residences surviving in Ontario.
