DescriptionAt one time the Passenger Pigeon may have been the most abundant bird on earth with an estimated population of five billion birds. Due to massive over-hunting by humans and clearing of the eastern forests in North America this species was quickly decimated. The last known Passenger Pigeon died in captivity in 1914. The ROM has 150 Passenger Pigeon specimens, the largest collection in the world.
